Grid Level 5 (NE5) refers to the medium-voltage grid, which typically operates at voltages ranging from 1 kV to 36 kV (often 10 kV or 20 kV). It connects the high-voltage grid of Grid Level 4 with the local substations of Grid Level 6, thereby playing a central role in regional electricity distribution
What Does NE5 Encompass?
Grid Level 5 begins at the substations, where electrical energy is transformed from high voltage to medium voltage. From there, the electricity is transmitted via medium-voltage lines to local distribution substations as well as to larger industrial and commercial customers. At the local distribution substations, the voltage is then reduced to low voltage and fed into Grid Level 6.
