Dirk Müller is an experienced entrepreneur and telecommunications expert with in-depth technical and strategic expertise. Together with Peter Schmidt, he founded netzkontor nord in 2008 and later OpenXS. In 2018, Netzkontor GmbH was founded in cooperation with Deutsche Beteiligungs AG. After 2.5 years on Netzkontor’s advisory board, Dirk Müller has now returned to operational leadership as CEO.

As an engineer with a degree in telecommunications, he brings extensive experience in building and leading technical organizations at telecommunications network operators. Throughout his career, he has played a key role in the founding and development of successful network operators as well as planning and service companies.

His previous management roles include, among others, positions as CTO at a northern German city carrier, CTO and operations manager at a nationwide network operator, and interim manager at municipal network operators. In addition, he has served as a managing partner at several companies in the industry—including netzkontor nord, OpenXS, and currently at Netzkontor GmbH.

As a commercially oriented CFO, his passion is building finance organizations that not only operate efficiently and effectively but also support the company as valuable, equal partners. Colleagues describe him as a hands-on manager with strategic thinking and a clear focus on value creation.

With extensive experience as a CFO in fast-growing private-equity-backed companies, he brings deep expertise in the integration and further development of financial structures in dynamic M&A environments. As a change manager, he acts not only as an initiator and motivator but also as a coach for organizations undergoing transformation—from small teams to departments with over 100 employees.

His career to date includes roles as CFO, interim CFO, and CFO & COO for the DACH region and Asia. In addition, he served as a partner at EY and as managing director of a Swiss management consulting firm, advising CFOs across various industries.

His industry experience ranges from professional services to telecommunications and fiber optics to chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and healthcare—both in the private equity sector and in publicly traded companies. His international career has taken him, among other places, to Switzerland for eight years, South Korea for four years, and Japan for two years.
